Ayatullah Sayyid Mujtaba Nur Mufidi

Ayatullah Sayyid Mujtaba Nur Mufidi in a Conversation with Quds News Agency: Imam Rida’s (PBUH) Iran: United, Powerful, Victorious

In the Name of Allah, the All-Beneficent, the All-Merciful. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessings be upon our Master Muhammad and his Pure Household, especially the Remnant of Allah on the earths (Baqiyyatullah fi al-Aradhin).

Imam Rida’s (PBUH) Iran: The Manifestation of the Bond Between the Ummah and Wilayah

The presence of Hazrat ‘Ali ibn Musa al-Rida (peace be upon him) in Khorasan in the second century AH is not merely a historical event, but a Wilayi-civilizational event. This presence brought Iran into the orbit of the Imam’s Wilayah and knowledge. That very connection expressed by the Quran in the noble verse “Your ally/guardian is only Allah and His Messenger and those who have believed…” [Quran 5:55] found existential realization in this land: Divine Wilayah as an extension of the Imam’s Wilayah.

“Imam Rida’s (PBUH) Iran” means a land whose social faith is intertwined around the axis of Wilayah. In the words of Imam Rida (peace be upon him): “Imamate is the rein of religion and the order of Muslims” (Al-Imamatu zimam al-din wa nidham al-muslimin). Thus, a society moving around the orbit of the Imam has its religious order and faithful honor guaranteed.

True Unity from the Perspective of the Quran

In Quranic logic, unity means not outward uniformity, but holding fast to the “Rope of Allah” (Habl Allah): “And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided” [Quran 3:103].

Imam al-Baqir’s (peace be upon him) exegesis states: “The Household of Muhammad are the Rope of Allah which we were commanded to hold fast to.”

In this sense, Wilayi unity is a unity formed around the axis of Imamate, not a unity built upon transient interests. If a society distances itself from Wilayah—even if outwardly cohesive—it is outwardly united yet inwardly fragmented; whereas if it holds fast to the Imam, no matter how diverse, it is united in truth.

Imam Rida’s (PBUH) Iran is the objective exemplar of Wilayi unity: a place where dozens of ethnicities and cultures gather around love (mahabbah) and cognition (ma’rifah) of the Imam, where their bond of unity is not worldly politics, but divine Wilayah.

Razavi Rationality: The Link Between Knowledge and Politics

The debates of Imam Rida (peace be upon him) in Merv constitute the complete personification of “faithful rationality.” Her Eminence spoke with proof (hujjah), logic, and wisdom, to the extent that Ma’mun confessed: “I saw no one more learned than ‘Ali ibn Musa.”

At the same time, that very Imam of intellect and logic did not remain silent before falsehood, preserving faithful honor (‘izzah) throughout his political conduct.

Thus, the firmness of power lies in the balance of intellect and faith, rather than in exaggeration and neglect.

Imam Rida’s (PBUH) Iran, if powerful, emerges from this very school of rationality—a school wherein “knowledge” and “Wilayah” serve as twin pillars of faithful authority.

Victory in Divine Custom (Sunnah)

In Quranic logic, victory is divine assistance (nusrat): “If you support Allah, He will support you and plant firmly your feet” [Quran 47:7].

True victory occurs when “assistance” originates from God, its condition being assisting religion. Any nation preserving religiosity and justice becomes an instance of the divine promise: “And Allah will surely support those who support Him” [Quran 22:40].

Imam Rida’s (PBUH) Iran is victorious because it defined its assistance along God’s path, with its independence, honor, and resistance springing from faith.

The Razavi Civilizational Heritage

The Eighth Imam (peace be upon him) is the founder of a custom blending religious knowledge, gnostic ethics, and divine politics. From the day he settled in Khorasan, Iran transformed into the hub for transmitting the sciences of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). Traditionists, jurists, and sages of the Iranian land drew from the Hadith and conduct of that Imam. The extension of this heritage can be observed in the seminaries of Qom, Mashhad, Najaf, and beyond.

Final Words

Thus, Imam Rida’s (PBUH) Iran is not merely a refuge, but a deeply meaningful haven—a meaning born of the bond between juristship (faqahat), rationality (‘aqlaniyyah), and Guardianship (Wilayah). A nation defining itself around the orbit of the Imam of knowledge and forbearance, living around the orbit of this bond, will witness the divine promise flowing in this land: “And the [good] outcome is for the righteous” [Quran 7:128].
