Ayatullah Sayyid Mujtaba Nur Mufidi: The Research Institute for Contemporary Jurisprudence Responds to the Contemporary Issues and Challenges of Islamic Society

Ayatullah Sayyid Mujtaba Nur Mufidi, President of the Research Institute for Contemporary Jurisprudence, pointing during a ceremony to the mission of this academic institution, emphasized that the Research Institute for Contemporary Jurisprudence, with a profound and practical approach, seeks to respond to the jurisprudential needs and contemporary challenges of Islamic society. He also stressed the importance of foundational and applied research in this center and its role in advancing jurisprudential studies.

Ayatullah Sayyid Mujtaba Nur Mufidi, President of the Research Institute for Contemporary Jurisprudence, also stated in this ceremony, citing a precious Hadith regarding the lofty status of acquiring deep understanding of religion (Tafaqquh fi al-Din): This research institute was established inspired by the necessities and modern needs of the Islamic Ummah, so that with a profound and methodical approach, it may investigate various jurisprudential issues and answer the questions of the era.

Pointing to the missions of this academic institution, he further noted: The primary focus of the Research Institute rests upon two fundamental axes: first, foundational research that explains the bases, principles, and theoretical frameworks of jurisprudence; and second, applied research designed and implemented to respond to the daily issues and challenges of society, ensuring that jurisprudence maintains an active and effective presence in the text of contemporary life.

The President of the Research Institute for Contemporary Jurisprudence noted: Throughout the span of Islamic history, scientific currents have consistently maintained a dynamic presence in both foundational and applied formats, and the prominence of either approach stemmed from the specific needs and requirements of each era; just as temporal transformations dictated the direction of research and shaped the trajectory of religious thought.

Referring to the academic structure of the Institute, Ayatullah Nur Mufidi stated: Currently, 11 academic departments comprising 40 prominent professors of the Islamic Seminary are actively engaged in this center, and over 30 research project contracts have been concluded with academic centers and various institutions thus far. Emphasizing the necessity of effective communication and cooperation with academic institutions while avoiding duplication, he added: Over the past five years, this organization succeeded in organizing more than 200 prominent academic seminars and publishing 26 journal issues, testifying to its dynamism and problem-oriented approach in jurisprudential studies. Furthermore, the Comprehensive Portal of Contemporary Jurisprudence has been launched with the goal of content production, knowledge management, and providing specialized services in contemporary jurisprudence, encompassing diverse sections such as the Encyclopedia of Contemporary Jurisprudence, the Digital Library of Contemporary Jurisprudence, Advanced Jurisprudence Classes (Dars-e Kharij), electronic journals, academic seminars, and the Institute’s news portal.
